The Nelson Choral Society presents Navidad Nuestra!
Join the 60-member choir in celebrating a Latin American Christmas. The concert features Navidad Nuestra (“Our Nativity”), a folk drama of the Nativity imbued with the rhythms and traditions of Hispanic America. Argentinian composer Ariel Ramírez collaborated with lyricist Félix Luna for this stirring work. Ramirez was fascinated by his country’s folklore, and gave each episode of the Nativity a distinctive regional voice. For instance, the three Kings travel from afar bringing honey cakes and a warm poncho of alpaca yarn.
Home-grown talent Tyler James is the soloist, with Christoph Martens on piano, Steven Parish on percussion and Andre Van Berlo on guitar.
The first half of the concert features special guests Blue House Choir, directed by Bessie Wapp. The choir aims “to spread joy, raise awareness, and inspire peace!"
Christmas is the season for glorious choral music and well-loved traditions. The Nelson Choral Society is definitely a Nelson tradition! We’re not sure when the choir began, but archival local newspapers mention Nelson Choral Society concerts as early as 1905!
