THIS IS A LIVESTREAM, ON-DEMAND TICKET

RESPIRED is a collaboration between musician and dancer. Using the cyclic nature of lived experience, and reflecting on individualism verses the collective, loops are established that repeat in various forms. Allowing improvisation and the breath pattern to influence movement and soundscape, these loops can evolve into inspiration and changed perspective, and give opportunity to begin again.

Join us for an evening of live dance and music with dancers Glynis Waring, Slava Doval and Amanda Papailhau and multi-instrumentalist Nella Banner!

Respired features original work created by:

Nella Banner is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, and producer.  She blends the influences of her musical roots in folk, jazz and classical with experimental compositions, contemporary improvisations and electronics; cultivating a sound that bridges genres. Performing using Ableton Live, Nella sculpts ambient orchestral landscapes of violin, synth and electronic drums in which her ethereal vocals weave.

Amanda Papailhau, originally from Enderby B.C moved to Nelson in 2015 via France, where she studied Contemporary Dance at Le Conservatoire de Rennes, before joining the company C’est Par Où La Danse?. A decade in France taught her to understand movement as visible language and to use dance as a tool for social discourse.

Glynis Waring grew up in Revelstoke, B.C. and moved to the Kootenays to continue her journey in dance and performance. A former member of Lamondance Company in Vancouver, B.C., Glynis has now founded and Kaslo Dance Studio and is an instructor with DanceFusion in Nelson. Inspired by movement and the expression that comes from each shape and creation, Glynis is grateful for the opportunity to delve deeper into storytelling through dance.

Slava Doval is the founder and director of DanceFusion, a Nelson based dance school focussed on community and movement artistry. Doval is an adventurous lifelong dance artist; choreographer and instructor who continues to study and perform dance locally and abroad. Slava was the 2018 Cultural Ambassador for the City of Nelson, awarded to her in recognition of the excellence of her artistic achievements in the field of dance. Since 2015 she has been the Dance Sector Representative for the Cultural Development Committee for the City of Nelson.
