This clowning, movement and mime workshop will be led by professional performers Nayana Fielkov and Matthew "Poki" McCorkle from RagMop Theatre company. They are performing their newest show A Can of Worms on October 4th, and the workshop is the evening before on October 3rd.

This is a 3-hour workshop from 6 pm to 9 pm. Poki will do an hour of movement and mime and Nayana will do two hours of clowning.

MIME AND MOVEMENT with with Matthew "Poki" McCorkle

Learn body isolations, fixed point, inertia, classics like "pulling rope" and "the wall", slow walking. Explore a collection of theories, techniques, and exercises compiled to inform movement that is precise, eloquently articulated, grounded, and expressive.

Poki's award winning acts have been presented around the world including in the worlds finest dinner varietè shows (PALAZZO in Vienna, Berlin, Nürnberg & Hamburg), in Dubai with one of Canada's leading contemporary circus companies (Cirque Éloize), and at Seattle's Moisture Festival, the largest and longest running comedy & varietè festival. Poki also directs, creates, and plays-in devised ensemble work for theatre and festivals. Current work includes RAGMOP Phyiscal Theatre Company with partner Nayana Fielkov. Together, their shows have toured Canada and the U.S. to much critical acclaim.

This is an invitation to extend, expand and develop play, personal presence and the quality of connection with self and an audience. Through a series of experiential awareness building games and exercises, we will cultivate curiosity, explore emotional range and practice the bravery of sharing our vulnerability. Through following the body and our impulses, we can be in delight with the discovery of the moment .

Perfect for performers and non-performers, dancers, actors, musicians, storytellers, and anyone interested in building their personal presence and sensory awareness in performance and everyday life! Taught in English with Gibberish subtitles.

Nayana Fielkov is a Canadian based performing artist dedicated to the work of play. She brings together the mediums of clown, dance, mask and physical comedy. Nayana is co-creator and performer in multi award winning shows Falling Awake and Hotel Vortruba from RAGMOP Theatre, Habitats (supported by Canada Council for the Arts and BC Arts Council), the roving troupe The Ladies in White, the clown troupe Poupon Parade, the theatrical musical ensemble The Myrtle Family Band, and The Dusty Flower Pot Cabaret. 

Nayana has studied extensively with many teachers including: David MacMurray Smith, Deanna Fleysher (of Butt Kapinski) John Turner (of Mump and Smoot), and Ruth Zaporah (Action Theatre). Nayana has been teaching for over a decade both internationally and throughout Canada.
